Hi there - We are in Melbourne at the moment (I am the American, husband is Aussie and we have a toddler son 2.5 years old) and we are moving to San Diego in March this year! I think we will both want to meet some Aussies in the area. We have been here 6 years (lived in Sacramento for 3 years prior to Oz) so we will both miss Aussies once we return.

Hey all,

I am dragging my wife and four kids (at last count) are heading from Melbourne to Silicon Valley soon, hopefully in December 2012. I am a little overwhelmed at the moment and am keen to absorb as much information and advice as I can get. I particular working out the details of where to live, how to set things up from Melbourne and whether to rent or buy. It would be great to meet some people in the area (I am yet to confirm exactly where I will be!)

Blindman - I'm a realtor in the heart of Silicon Valley - not that I'm trying to sell you anything but know the area well, schools, kids, shopping etc-also originally from Melbourne - happy to help you out with info - will PM you - it is totally overwhelming - done the move here a couple times. First time as a new bride, second time after five years in Asia - when I came back that time things like Telco's and TV providers had changed - was totally lost. I'll PM (private message you) feel free to reach out - You will probably find the wife and the kids will have the biggest adjustment as you will be busy working - they won't be able to depend on you.

Hi everyone,
I moved from Ivanhoe in Melbourne to a much smaller, more expensive place in Belmont along the Peninsula. There are deer that roam the streets here! And mountain lions too! And they reckon Australia has dangerous animals....
We're loving it so far, it has been 7 months, but I'm expecting to get homesick around Xmas. In the meantime we have Halloween coming up and my kids are really looking forward to all the candy.
