Hey, you never know - it might just be a good thing! Or not.

I think if the BA is re-opened, it has to be understood that there is to be no whingeing, complaining or sooking if things get a little too heated in there.
I myself could do without it, but if others would like to have it up and running, and the moderators think it is a good idea, then I say go for it.
I never ventured in there before so I'm not fussed.

Some of the people who were dickheads don't seem to be around anymore so I think it's a good idea!

It doesnt matter to me either way but when one needs to whinge . gripe and catty on Id rather it be in the back alley
I enjoyed it whether I posted or not. Helped me develop a bit of a spine, which I typically don't have online LOL. I also learned quite a bit from it.

I think its healthy!
In another forum I visit they have the "three G rule" (no discussions on God, Guns or Government) and that keeps things a little less heated.
I also think that people need to know that everyone will be treated the same - the same rules for everyone who post in there.
Also (random ramblings at this hour), people who go into the BA need to know that they run the risk that they could be offended - and that being offended by a post in the BA should not be the basis of banning, censoring or slapping a person across the ear. Thats the whole purpose of the BA. Its for open discussions that may require people who go in to have a thick skin....
That said, having the BA means that other areas of the Bar should be free of controversial discussions and mods should either delete them or move them to the BA......

I agree with everything you said Gazza. Aussiechicka I agree with you too - Australians are good at saying what's on their mind, whether they come across as being blunt or not.
Have to agree with Gazza. Also, I wonder is that would make Neil come back? :D:rolleyes:

I guess I will play devil's advocate here and mention issues that have occurred in the past with this type of forum:
It become's a playground for boofheads, or those who think they are arm-chair umpires or experts, which just leads to p*ssing competitions;
Some people cannot tolerate being rebuffed or having their topics debated, and even though it is an idyllic that everyone is treated the same, human nature dictates that is often not the case;
Personal attacks are the result of the above, which only causes division;
There are a lot of forums for heated debate on the www already.
Just my 2 cents worth. There may be some who would return to the pot, only to stir it up again. Is that necessary?

I think those that don't like it should stay away from it - and I agree with BarbiQ that personal attacks should not occur.
motto: be childlike not childish

ok question if you have the three G rule - what are we going to talk about because a lot of it was about Governments ... man who is going to moderate that section? I'll be honest I sat on the fence on this - I can see the argument for it and I can see the argument against it - truly the Paradox of life. There is a lot of merit for us honest down to earth, say it how it is Aussies but there have been a lot of BS and sorrow out of it too - that sent people to go elsewhere. Tough call my mates - but it could be a trial period. Not sure I want some of those arguments - but being "nice" all the time is so American and sometimes just feels so un-natural to me - yes I'm a dualie so I can say that.

I LIKE the 3Gs rule! :)
The problem with that, is it would then limit many topics....and why would we need a BA at all then.....I personally don't like the 3G rule for the BA, but yes for the rest of the forums!

The 3G rule is perfect for the whole forums...and just don't have it in the BA.
I have to agree with TwoUp - being nice and pie on the outside (and bitter and twisted on the inside) is so bloody American .....they can never let of steam unless its holding a gun and shooting at passing cars, animals or family. But we are Aussies - and we (well most of us) can be blunt and say what we feel in a discussion...and having a place like the BA is a good spot to keep that.
Well, there is one at the top of the thread....

Another forum I'm on, that uses vbulletin (sp?) has a like "button" on every post...and it doesn't go to FB.

I would be fine with reopening BA. from my perspective, the forum was 95% constructive argument with 5% of people going overboard at times. Hopefully, we can adjust the scale 5% in the right direction if it does reopen. It was fun and occasionally bracing, but I very rarely felt upset with the discussions in there.

I missed the Back Alley when it was first removed, but have lived happily without it ever since!

If you don't have a hide as thick as an elephant it's best not to venture there. But it can be lots of "fun".
