Travel Websites

One of the side-effects to living in another country, is the need to travel "home" occasionally, or as much as possible. This can be costly, so having the means to find the cheapest rates possible becomes fairly important. These links will help.

  • Qantas Airways - Sign up for email alerts on this website for special Qantas prices on flights to and from Australia. A few people from Mates Up-Over have recommended this website. Thanks Neil.
  • AboutAustralia.com - Veronica runs a travel agency for people wanting to travel to Australia, and she's located in Texas. They also have an on-line Australian shop, for Aussie foods, souvenirs, and gifts. A good service not only for Aussies in America, but also for Americans wanting to travel to Oz.
  • Expedia - An end-to-end travel planner. Expedia gives you the means to search for the best rates for airfares, rental cars, along with accommodation, maps, directions and a full set of travel planning tools, without having to leave your chair!
  • Travelocity - Much the same services as Expedia. I've heard good things about them both, and not having used either yet, I'd hate to make a recommenation for one over the other.
  • AusTravel - Part of the multi-national "Thompson Travel", AusTravel uses Australian consultants who are very understanding of your needs. I've heard good things about this travel agency.
  • Travel Worm - Similar to Expedia and Travelocity - providing the search capabilities to price and plan your trip. They offer a membership program that offers greater discounts.
  • MapQuest - One of the handiest websites available in my opinion. Whether you are driving up the road, to another town, or to the other side of the country, MapQuest is the best for providing detailsed directions at the click of a few keys.
  • Rand-McNalley - Similar to MapQuest. They offer road-trip planners, and what impresses me - an up-to-date indicator of road construction!!
  • WhereIs Online - The Australian equivalent of MapQuest. I've tried the most obscure places in Australia to test it, and it's found every one for me, :)
