Power and Appliances
American power points (outlets) come in two shapes. One has three slots similar to the Australian ones, but the two top ones are straight as opposed to the slanted ones for Australian prongs. The other one is just the two straight slots.
- American power is 110 volt, as compared to the Australian 240 volt.
- If you brought some Australian electrical appliances with you, you can buy converters to use them. For electrical appliances that use a high wattage, you will need to buy transformers to use them. Make sure you buy a powerful enough transformer to cope with the wattage of the appliance.
- Australian videos and DVDs in American players can be a problem because of the different formats of the players (NTSC - American, PAL - Australian). You can get around this by getting a dual-format player, or converting your movies to NTSC format. See "OzConnor's Video & DVD" page for more information.
