America uses the "Imperial System" as opposed to the Australian "Metric System". For Australians who went to school prior to 1973, this may not be a difficult hurdle to overcome, but for those younger Aussies - you will be using converters quite a bit. • Some quick conversions to remember are:
  • 1 mile = 1.6 kilometers
  • 1 foot = 30.5 centimeters
  • 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters
  • 1 pound = .45 kilograms
  • 1 ounce = 28.3 grams
  • 1 pint = .47 litres
  • 1 quart = .95 litres
  • 1 gallon = 3.7 litres
  • 50 degrees F = 10 degrees C
  • Australian cup = 250ml / American cup = 240 ml
  • Australian tablespoon = 20ml / American tablespoon = 15ml
  • American cup = 110 grams
